This is an issue being explored by two participants researching children’s interaction with iPads who came along to the MODE data workshop on 02.10.12. Is touch different from gesture? Can we talk about touch as a gesture? Is it a different mode? When does a gesture become a touch? Here we talked about the resources of touch as a mode – pressure, definition, and the range of touch-screen forms of touch. We discussed the need to unpack gesture: How and when do objects become extensions of the body in a gesture for example?
